As a global sports and media business, the WNBA is so much more. While Basketball Operations runs the league’s on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world’s most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of WNBA merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the WNBA’s success.
In this role, you will help define and lead the content strategic direction of the WNBA digital products. You will work directly with the social content team, product, and WNBA stakeholders to connect the dots, tell stories and champion initiatives to experiment and create differentiated content that speaks to the fans.
Major Responsibility:
Lead the development of owned-and-operated and direct-to-consumer content strategy
Make updates to WNBA.com and WNBA App quickly
Lead a team of project employees to proactively plan content development, content creation and content publishing for WNBA.com and WNBA App
Compellingly communicate WNBA’s story and design sensibility in an effort to envision and organize how content will be presented in digital formats (.com and app)
Work closely with the Product, Design, and Engagement Strategy team to oversee and ensure the implementation of best practices across multichannel/digital content deliverables
Responsible for digital asset meta documentation including URLs, SEO tags, OG tags, Alt tags, meta descriptions, and SEO/tagging
In addition, you will be working with the team to produce content outlines, headlines, callouts, functional copy, and meta documentation
Maintain alignment on strategic goals with senior leadership of cross-functional partners (Product, Marketing, Distribution, etc.) by providing clear verbal and written context
Communicate content trends and industry shifts, including implications and recommendations, to internal and external partners
Develop market expertise through continuous focus on and knowledge of the competitive and market environment in each of the strategic priority markets
Provide content recommendation for targeted push notification strategy for subscribers, lapsed subscribers and anonymous users
Maintain an in-depth library of comparable content across OTT landscape
Evaluate operational workflow for efficiency and scalability; identify challenges and provide innovative solutions
Track & manage all related costs and provide forecasts for upcoming years
Required Skills/Knowledge:
Prior experience programming or creating content for a large-scale product and website/app
Acute attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of sports media landscape is a plus
Experience in developing strategy for website, app and/or social media platforms
Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Deeply knowledgeable and passionate about WNBA Strong writing and communication skills, as well as ability to execute editorial judgment
Basic knowledge of HTML and Content Management Systems
Ability and willingness to work on deadline and handle multiple tasks at once with a precise and detail-oriented approach
Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team
Education: Bachelor’s degree
