Description : JOB TITLE: Laboratory Operations AssistantCOMPANY NAME: Boulder GXDEPARTMENT: Lab OperationsCLASSIFICATION: Non-ExemptLOCATION: Spring, TexasREPORTS TO: Assistant Lab DirectorShift: Day ShiftJOB PURPOSE: The Laboratory Operations Assistant is primarily responsible for accurately entering patient demographics, test orders, and supporting documentation into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This position will also assist in providing accurate patient and laboratory reports, including statistical analysis, quality control checks, and documentation of problem resolution. The Laboratory Operations Assistant is responsible for facilitating coordination and communication between departments, clients, and vendors in support of business objectives. This position helps ensure efficient day to day operation of the laboratory, and supports management and other laboratory staff.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include but are not limited to the following (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs):Accurately enter patient demographics, test orders, and supporting documentation into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)Prepare laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testingUnpack and route specimens by type to various staging areasVerify and cross check the validity of patient specimen informationPrepare all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or designed locationsAliquot samples for departmentsPrepare excess specimen samples for storage, and resolve and document problem specimensAssist in creating and/or verifying accurate patient results reports for all clinical tests offered by Boulder GXAid in all reporting functionality needs for Boulder GX and its clients, including creation of custom reports, scheduled reports, and advanced data queriesCollect and validate client/patient information in order to produce accurate reportsContact clients and/or patients to obtain information required for testing, billing, and client relationsIdentify and document issues within laboratory operations processes, and communicate with Account Management and supervisor accordinglyEstablish and maintain positive working relationships, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organizationAssist in inventory control of office supplies and dispatch of consumables for genetic and infectious disease testing to client sitesAssemble testing kits and provide logistics support for clients and Account ManagementUtilize the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and other supportive software to generate reports, verify vendor invoices, validate patient information, and upload electronic departmental records as neededAdhere to HIPAA compliance and laboratory safety policiesAnticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of internal departments and external clients to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parametersAssist in drafting of standard operation procedures and policiesQUALIFICIATION/REQUIREMENTS: Excellent verbal and written communication skillsMust be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephoneAstute attention to detailPunctual, honest, and trustworthyAble to work with minimum supervision – a self-motivated, driven individual who can work on own initiative and as part of a teamAble to learn and assimilate new information quicklyCustomer service drivenStrong sense of urgency and problem-solving skillsAbility to work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail and organizational skillsDemonstrate commitment to strategic business goals and objectives (TAT, precision reporting, etc.)Familiarity with Google, Adobe, and Microsoft suite of work productsEDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCEHigh School Diploma or equivalent and at least 2-4 years of related experiencePost-secondary education in business, computers, life sciences, or office management is preferredBilingual (English/Spanish) preferredWORK ENVIRONMENTWork is performed in a sanitized laboratory as well as general office setting. Employees entering and leaving the laboratory must wear appropriate clothing and protective equipment such as masks, goggles, and gloves as applicable.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
