Description : Job Summary
Under general supervision, provides care of infants in Neonatal Intensive Care and Well Baby Nursery, including follow-up planning. Functions as advanced care provider support during day and night for neonatal resuscitations and care of NICU and Well Baby Nursery patients. Performs procedures with residents. Teaches medical, physician assistant and nursing students and pediatric and family medicine residents. May perform administrative support functions as required. Participates in and leads programmatic initiatives in the NICU and Nursery.

Responsibilities
1. Direct Patient Care in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Well Baby Nursery including follow-up planning. 2. Completes required chart documentation legibly, thoroughly, and in a timely manner. 3. Participates in night call along with pediatric residents. 4. Responsible for delivery room resuscitations and care of patients in the NICU and Well Baby Nursery. 5. Assists residents with procedures. 6. Attends and participates in administrative staff meetings. 7. Participates in Denver Health initiatives including RIEs and Committees. 8. Teaches medical students, physician assistant students and nursing students, as well as pediatric and family medicine residents in NICU and Well Baby Nursery.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
1. Knowledge of medical principals and procedures. 2. Skill in performing physical exams and in formulation of assessments and treatment plans. 3. Ability to order appropriate diagnostic studies to aid in diagnosis. 4. Knowledge of appropriate administration and prescription of medications. 5. Ability to exercise initiative and judgment in selecting proper treatment. 6. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. 7. Desire ability to enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs and review of current literature. 8. Knowledge and accountability for department’s productivity, efficiency and financial viability.
Education
• Bachelor’s Degree (Required) 1. Graduation from an accredited educational program for Physician Assistants and successful completion of certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant. OR Graduation from an accredited educational program for Neonatal Nurse Practitioners. 2. Highly experienced in newborn resuscitation, placement of arterial and venous lines and chest tubes, intubation of term, preterm, and extremely low birth weight infants, and in ventilator management, particularly volume ventilation and high frequency ventilation. Additional experience in managing therapeutic hypothermia and post-surgical babies preferred.

• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) from American Heart Association (Required) BLS (Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification/CPR). Licensed by the State of Colorado as a Physician Assistant; must register supervising physician upon assignment with the Colorado Board of Medical Examiner’s. Depending on the needs of the assigned area incumbents in this job title may be required to obtain additional certifications or training in one or more specialty areas (examples: DEA, NRP, PALS, ACLS). All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employmentBLS (Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification/CPR).
