The Computer Science and Engineering department spans multiple areas of research including algorithms, logic, and complexity; computer hardware, including architecture, VLSI (chip design), FPGAs, and design automation; computer security and privacy; cyber-physical systems; distributed systems; database systems; machine learning and artificial intelligence; natural language processing; networks; pervasive computing and human-computer interaction; programming languages; robotics; social computing; storage systems; and visual computing, including computer vision, visualization, and graphics.
Job Overview
Support all aspects of a grant related to object detection for autonomous vehicles. This includes technical testing of research solutions, so a sufficient engineering background is required. This also includes communication with the sponsors, a Korean company, both in in-depth technology and executive business contexts, and thus fluency in Korean and project management skills are required.
Salary Information: Salary Range: $95,000 – $100,800/year. Proportionate to time worked. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

Represents the unit and / or Principal Investigator at meetings and conferences in matters related to engineering design considerations and financial requirements. Understands sponsor requirements and communicate these to research team. Manages lab’s relationship with the sponsor. Communicates project updates and research results to sponsor through informal meetings and through writing of, or contributing to the writing of, formal progress reports and updates.
25% –
Functions as project manager for complex engineering assignments. Serves as project manager on industry (Korean corporation)-sponsored research project. Ensures research progresses on planned timeline agreed upon with sponsor, often according to contractual obligations.

Develops product testing protocols and leads testing of research prototypes to align research development progress with sponsor objectives. Provides development feedback to research team based on testing results. Actively develops and proposes possible solutions to research problems to the research team; Technical support to industrial partners during external testing.

Provides cost analysis using time schedules and within budgetary constraints; Proposes cost effective solutions to project challenges.

Provides engineering information and advice to Principal Investigators and research personnel with administrative responsibility for the research program or teaching facility.

Fundraising and seeking additional sponsors.
Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Bilingual in English and Korean.
Advanced knowledge associated with the planning, development, and fabrication of engineering systems.
Advanced knowledge of specialized design work as well as the overall field.
Strong creativity and problem solving abilities to apply principles, practices and procedures within discipline to complete difficult assignments.
Strong project management skills needed to assume responsibility for accomplishment of research objectives.
Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
Advanced interpersonal and presentation skills.
Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner; readily assess complex challenges and barriers and recommend effective resolutions.
