This is a charity funded innovative research project, aiming to improve person-centred nurse-led care for patients with progressive multimorbid illness in primary care. This project will be conducted in primary care services in Birmingham and enable local patients, families and services to benefit from a novel mobile application (“app”) of a person-centred outcome measure, a simple clinical decision support tool, and pilot implementation with potential for national roll-out.
The successful candidate is required to generate and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities for this research project, and will work within the School of Nursing, Institute of Clinical Sciences at the University of Birmingham under the supervision of Dr Ping Guo (Principal Investigator).
This post is ideal for a researcher with experience of health and social care research including survey studies and qualitative interviews. The post holder will be responsible for helping to develop study protocol and materials, obtain ethical approval, contribute to the design of a mobile app and clinical decision support tool, and deliver training for primary care nurses, support participant recruitment, facilitate data collection, data entry and data analysis. The post holder will write up the papers and help to organise a seminar for dissemination working with the PI and wider team.

Main Duties/Responsibilities

Refine study protocol and relevant study materials, and apply for approvalsDemonstrate good communication skills throughout the research process to co-ordinate study sites and provide on-going advice and support on informed consent and recruitment of participantsPlan, manage and facilitate quantitative and qualitative data collection methods such as electronic/paper based data capture, face to face participant interviews as required in accordance with a study protocolRefine and pilot data collection tools and processesBe responsible for maintaining the study site files and study record systemsImplement and work within the study protocol and ensure the study is run in accordance with regulatory frameworksAnalyse and interpret dataApply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understandingTo be able to engage and work with primary care staff at local sites and patient and public involvement group to ensure research is feasible, relevant and importantDisseminate research findings for publication, research seminars etcEstablish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the core research team and with those in primary care servicesUndertake management/administration arising from the studyProvide regular study updates to the PI and other key members of the research team and internal/external parties involvedMeet study deadlines and ensure the study meets local targets regarding recruitment to time and targetManage, organise and attend study research meetings and events as requiredContribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administrationContribute to enterprise, business development and/or public engagement activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of the project leaderDeal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlinesPromotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working cultureContribute to writing bids for research funding
Person Specification
