UM ST. Joseph Medical Center, a member of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), is seeking to hire a Director of APP Services.
General Summary
Under broad administrative direction, directs, plans, organizes and evaluates the delivery of patient care services by the advanced practice professionals. Demonstrates personal leadership through activities at the strategic and operational level, through innovative contributions to quality efforts, and through the selection and development of quality and results-oriented staff.
Job Specifics
Collaborates effectively with medical staff leadership in projecting program development needs, defining goals and objectives, and in identifying immediate and future requirements for clinical services.
Actively participates in UM SJMC Value Delivery System, focusing on continuous process improvement, removal of waste, and zero patient harm. Analyzes, evaluates, and recommends to executive leadership the direction, design and development of clinical services which are responsive to customer requirements, reflect the input and participation of staff and maximize productivity and effectiveness of work processes.
Develops and directs patient care delivery systems which assure consistency, quality, and cost effectiveness of patient care services across the continuum of care, and which significantly reduce unit cost over time; the impact of patient care delivery has a significant impact on the performance of the entire organization. Collaborates and negotiates with the appropriate division leaders in the development, and justification and oversight of the annual operating budget.
Creates an environment which is customer focused, supports staff participation in professional development and process improvement, and empowers staff to make decisions to improve patient care
Monitors patient and stakeholder satisfaction and directs systems and services to respond to requirements and improve satisfaction; leverages experience and knowledge of the patient care delivery systems to positively impact the patient and stakeholder experience.
Effectively manages APP staff and daily operations as needed.
Has oversight of all APP schedules/staffing.
Has direct supervision of all Clinical APP leads.
Develops an organizational environment which supports professional development and effective performance of staff and managers by creating well defined objectives, monitoring progress, and taking timely action to ensure that results are achieved.
Participates in recruitment, selection and development of the team member environment; continually keeps a pulse on team member engagement.
Collaborates with Human Resources and The Medical Staff Office to plan and implement programs needed for the orientation, competency assessment and professional development of staff; regularly keeps abreast of changes in ideas, trends and technologies that would impact the staffs ability to improve patient care
Has oversight of employed APP performance appraisals and assures they are completed in a timely manner; effectively coaches team members to maximize their skills and enhance performance, and partners with Human Resources to assess options for low performers.
Has understanding of relevant compensation and productivity practices and works with medical group leadership to address issues and make recommendations.
Designs and implements effective communications systems to assure that staff are informed about organizational changes in a timely manner
Assures that staff have the training, time and resources needed to participate in service quality improvement activities; motivates team members to take pride and ownership in the results they produce and fully leverage their skills and knowledge to benefit the work in their assigned areas.
Assures compliance with standards of professional practice for allied health professions. Assures the competence and effectiveness of professional and support staff who provide patient care. Assures compliance with regulatory requirements within service lines and clinical areas.
Represents advanced practice professionals in organizational forums, including medical staff committees, administrative committees and task forces, and groups reporting to the UMSJMC Board of Directors.
Assures that divisional policies, procedures and operating practices are in compliance with standards set by external regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Works with medical group leadership and medical staff clinical leaders to assure appropriate and compliant coding, billing, and documentation practices are followed
Serves in a clinical role as requested by the organization and pursuant to the relevant job description for the identified clinical role.
What You Need to Be Successful:
Education and Experience
Master of Science Degree with completion of a Nurse Practitioner program or Physician Assistants program required. Graduate preparation in management is preferred. DNP/ doctorate preferred.
Registered and currently recorded with the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner or physician assistant in the State of Maryland. Certified in area of specialty, preferred.
Six years experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required. Three years’ progressively responsible supervisory experience is required.
