Description : Provides both leadership and assistance in planning, implementing, and administering the activity program for an acute care Inpatient psychiatric unit. Participates as a member of a treatment team and is under the general supervision of the Licensed Therapist.
Essential Responsibilities:
Provides direct patient care services through faciliting activities in individual and group settings for ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients.
Assists in activities services support functions.
Assures safety and maintenance of all areas and equipment; conducts inventory of equipment and supplies; maintains work areas in orderly and neat manner and identifies/corrects unsafe conditions as observed.
Aids in identifying department needs; and assists in program planning, evaluation and implementation as prescribed in program guidelines.
Maintains records per departmental/hospital policy guidelines.
Coordinates patients schedules and activities with other staff members.
Assists in orientation, training and supervision of volunteers.
Communicates effectively; and instills/encourages positive communication between self and others.
Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care and/or service appropriate to age groups servced.
Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service.
On regular, sustained basis, cooperates with other staff members both within and outside department in accomplishment of own job duties, as well as, assisting others in accomplishing theirs; serves as team player and role model for other staff members and always exhibiting traits of courtesy, caring, helpfulness and respect; and conducts oneself in service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, cooperative, sensitive, respectful and kind when dealing with members, visitors, public and employees.
Performs other duties and accepts responsibility as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience
Minimum one (1) year experience working and interacting with the psychiatric population.
Education
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
Basic Life Support
Additional Requirements:
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training required within the first thirty (30) days of hire.
Working knowledge of physical, mental, psychological, and social needs of psychiatric patients from a medical standpoint.
Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in interpersonal relations, customer service, oral communication, written communication, problem solving, adaptability, change management, decision making, and conflict resolution.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in medical records documentation.
One (1) year experience working in recreational therapy or activities programming.
Associates degree.
Thirty (30) completed units of college level course work from an accredited U.S. college or university or a certified foreign studies equivalency, with at least nine (9) of these units in recreational therapy or a field related to recreational administration.
Activity Director Certification (ADC).
