She has a history of mental health issues, substance misuse, self-harm, suicidal ideation, suicide attempts and homelessness with periods of rough sleeping. “On the first full day at our crisis house she said she had slept a full night for the first time in years. She takes a real pride in her flat which she calls her ‘home’.”We have an exciting and rewarding opportunity for a Bank Support Worker to join our friendly and welcoming team working at our Crisis Accommodation Service in Doncaster. You will work as part of a small team in a home from home environment where no two days will be the same.Doncaster Crisis Accommodation provides short-term accommodation for people experiencing a mental health crisis. The service has 4 beds, which can be accessed for a maximum of 7 nights, during which time staff will provide emotional and practical support over a 24 hour period to assist people using the service to resolve their crisis. The service works in partnership with the statutory Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team.The service also provides a 24 hour helpline which provides support and information relating to mental health issues.We want to recognise the important contribution of our front-line colleagues within our accommodation roles which is why you will be awarded a £250 bonus (pro rata for part time staff) if you start with us in January, February or March. You will need to complete your 6 month probation period to receive this bonus.How will you make a difference?Work as part of a Crisis Service providing practical and emotional support to users of the crisis service and callers to the helplineProvide support with daily living ‘living ordinary lives’Prioritise the individual need, working to the recovery model to support them to work towards their identified goalsPositively promote individuals living independently within the community by maintaining extensive knowledge of and links with community resources including signposting to specialist servicesProvide or assist individuals to access, information on health promotion and obtain information that will enable them to access resourcesSignpost and make referrals to other agencies, where appropriate, and to develop knowledge of the care pathways to meet individuals need. Support access and onward referral to other services e.g. drug and alcohol services, debt counseling or domestic violence servicesCould this be you?You will have strong communication skills and a understanding of mental illness. But aside from that, being a Support Worker isn’t all about qualifications, if you have a passion for making a difference then we can provide you will all the training and support that you need. You can also take us up on our offer to support you through your NVQ in Health and Social Care qualification!Your role will be a bank worker working as and when required by the service, you will work on a rota basis including unsocialble hours.
