Description : EQUANS are recruiting for a Business Development Director to be join our Electric Vehicle Solutions team! This is a permanent, full-time role with National coverage, meaning you can be based anywhere in the UK (although preferably within commutable distance of London or Leeds).
Our aim is to become a market leader in provision of Electric Vehicle charging solutions (hardware, software and services) across both our Build, Own, Operate (BOO) and 3rd Party service channels as part of our group strategy to lead the transition to zero carbon.
This role will be responsible for all sales and Business Development activities of the EV Solutions team and will oversee tender responses, development of complex commercial frameworks and management of key customer accounts to ensure we exceed our ambitious growth plans, while providing excellent customer service and ensuring compliance with HSE requirements.
The role will also build and nurture key senior relationships across the marketplace and customer base, representing the business and promoting the zero carbon strategy.
As the Business Development Director, you will form part of the business leadership team, responsible for delivering growth targets in existing areas and identifying new opportunities and markets. You will lead a focused, motivated and well-governed team of Business Development Managers and Sales Support Operatives to deliver best in class bids. You will have a voice in the leadership team to represent the feedback from our prospective customers and the wider market and help shape the strategy of the business in response.
What will you deliver?
Team Leadership & Management
Ensure relevant company policies and legal guidelines are communicated to EV Solutions team members and that they are followed at all times
Manage and lead the Business Development function to work effectively through the lifecycle of a bid and strive for continual improvement.
Recruit, Retain and Develop a dynamic, expert Business Development and Client Management team
Prospect to Customer
Manage all opportunities accurately and effectively, from initial prospect through to realised opportunity, ensuring excellent visibility and reporting at all stages
Maintain excellent win rates
Providing actionable feedback from any losses
‘Know your numbers’ at every stage of the process and always be seeking to maximise potential of your deals and your people
Manage bid timelines and governance in line with customer expectations and EQUANS process
Develop and execute the sales and Business Development strategy to achieve sales targets for EV Charger solutions and expand our customer base
Organise, facilitate and produce screening information to facilitate bid reviews to ensure we pursue the most commercially advantageous opportunities
Lead on development and negotiation of sales contracts and Commercial Framework Contracts for rollout of EV Charging infrastructure including Build, Own and Operate Chargers and Workplace Charger solutions.
Effectively communicate the value proposition to customers through proposals and presentations, with support from the Marketing team
Develop client-focused, differentiated and achievable EV charging solutions
Ensure compliance with internal governance arrangements on tender submissions and contract signatures
Adherence to applicable legislation, regulatory and compliance requirements
Horizon Scanning
Review technology, competitors and potential customers at regular intervals to inform sales approach and business strategy in response
Develop effective strategies and themes to successfully win contracts, including analysis of the competition, and price/margin assessment
Gather market intelligence and understanding of client expectations on specific tenders and general market needs
Relationship & Profile Building
Building and maintaining strong, long-lasting customer relationships with focus on key accounts
Develop and foster relationships with key business partners and Local Authorities
Develop and foster relationships with prospects and ensure the wider business development function do likewise
Partner with customers to understand their business needs and objectives
Represent the business at industry and client specific events

Who are we looking for?
Proven experience as Sales and/or Business Development Director or other similar managerial position
Electric Vehicle charger market knowledge would be advantageous, or experience in a comparable industry (automotive, technical M&E, facilities, telecoms etc.)
Excellent communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal and presentation skills
Excellent negotiation skills
Good organisational and leadership skills
Experience of winning and implementation of bids for complex and innovative projects
Development of relationships with partners, service and technology providers and Local Authorities
Proven ability to drive the sales process from plan to close
Experience of internal senior stakeholder management
Able to build effective and positive relationships and influence positive outcomes
Driven & results orientated
Committed to a high standard of performance
