Position Summary:
The Coordinator, Clinical PAC oversees the Patient Access (PAC) Nurses within the Patient Access Center scheduling team, which serves as a heightened level of service to schedule patients who require clinical input to determine the appropriate scheduling timeframe. Working remotely, the role takes escalated patient calls to determine urgency of the patient concern, assess patient needs, and determine the appropriate level of care and scheduling timeframe. As necessary or directed, the role may be expected to be on site and in person. The PAC Nurse Team works collaboratively across the Patient Access Center and ambulatory offices to improve the patient’s access to necessary care and schedule the patient for the right care, at the right time, with the right provider.
The Coordinator, Clinical PAC is responsible for directing and coordinating the daily functions of the PAC Nurse Team, including ensuring quality control of the scheduling process. Collaborates with the Patient Access Center management team to manage and direct the implementation of professional nursing practice on a day-to-day basis for the PAC Nurse team. Coordinate’s age-appropriate patient care activities for a defined staff and makes immediate decisions for those areas within the scope of his/her responsibility using knowledge of standards, policies, and procedures as they apply to the given area. As part of the management team participates in strategic planning, implementation, evaluation, and revision of systems to support and enhance the competence, autonomy, and accountability of the PAC nursing staff.
Major Responsibilities:
Oversight of the PAC Nurse team, whose responsibilities include the following:
Provide clinical direction for scheduling inquiries that require clinical input for appropriate scheduling. Utilize clinical algorithms to determine patient’s expedited scheduling needs across multiple clinical disciplines. Resolve clinical scheduling issues and schedule patients with the most appropriate provider and timeframe to meet the patient’s needs.
Assess patient needs over the phone while determining the urgency of the patient’s scheduling inquiry. Documents patient care according to nursing standards as appropriate.
Ensure patients understand their treatment plan and the clinical appropriateness of their scheduling timeframe.
Handle clinical escalations in scheduling and direct patient to the appropriate care based on their needs.
Collaborate with specialty clinics and providers as defined by working relationships.
Ensure continuity of care through collaboration with other health care providers. Ensures exceptional services to patients throughout the process.
Build relationships that support collaborative work within the department and across the organization.
Coordinates and implements day-to-day work assignments for staff, including coordinating clinical practices and deployment of resources at the unit level for staff to ensure implementation of clinical processes, adherence to standards, and compliance with regulatory standards. Keeps management informed of nursing workload, changes in patient and employee needs, and other problems.
Assesses the number and competency level of staff in each assigned area and adjusts staffing appropriately to meet patient care needs.
Facilitates communication with nursing leadership, and maintains open lines of communication with other departments, staff, physicians, and other support personnel.
In collaboration with PAC management, ensures the nursing practice standards, health and safety requirements are met.

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse licensure and registration.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
Experience/Skill:
Required:
Minimum of four years related clinical experience and at least one year experience in the clinical preceptor and/or resource role.
Demonstrates leadership experience.
Must have decision-making skills to establish priorities and initiate action.
Inspires and encourages teamwork.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft office products (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.).
Preferred:
Previous supervisory or management experience.
