About The Role
SCB creates, processes, analyses and/or publishes a wide variety of data as part of its business operations. The Data Engineer is a key hire who will be tasked with increasing the value that SCB extracts from data and improving the robustness of SCB data systems. The primary area of responsibility as a Data Engineer will be:
Working with key stakeholders to understand requirements for data processing.
Developing enhancements to existing data systems using SQL and Python.
Supporting and developing Microsoft PowerAutomate and Azure Data Flow (ADF) data pipelines.
Monitoring operational data processes and responding to incidents. Problem solving issues related to data.
Using hands-on data skills to producing ad-hoc data extracts, analysis or reports to meet specific one-off needs of SCB senior management.
Working with outsource resources to develop new data features and testing the resulting deliverables.
Researching and developing with new technologies.
Skills & Competencies
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and competencies:
Core Skills:
Strong knowledge of SQL, database design and data management.
Skilled in using Python to manipulate data and interact with REST APIs.
Familiar with Cloud based environments, Azure preferred.
Competent working with Excel, Microsoft Power Platform (Apps, Automate and BI) and Azure Data Flows.
Strong awareness of the code, design and implementation issues required to deliver secure systems.
A self-starter able to work without close supervision.
A drive and passion to self-learn with the ability to learn quickly.
Outstanding analytical and problem solving.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Technical and analytical mind-set with a strong interest in technology.
Clear writing and verbal communication.
Results-oriented with personal accountability and attention to detail.
Beneficial Skills:
Experience or knowledge of the following would be beneficial:
Azure functions
Azure DevOps
Machine learning
Web scraping
Snowflake, MS-SQL, PostGres databases
Programming with additional development languages.
Financial market data management experience.
Knowledge of Dynamics 365 (particularly Operations and Finance) and Jira.
Qualifications
The successful applicant must have commercial experience working as a Data Engineer.
Degree educated; Computer Science preferred
Microsoft certification would be a plus.
