Description : The END Technician Trainee is given supervised, on-the job training in performing electro-diagnostic studies and testing. This testing includes routine and portable EEGs as ordered by physicians according to established protocols and national ASET & ACNS guidelines, respectively. At approved points in their training the technician may begin to perform these tests independently. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital’s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Duties
Ability to obtain, under supervision, a standard EEG that includes: patient physiologic bio-calibration, notation of patient position and activity, documentation of movement related artifacts
Ability to measure physiologic events during sleep by applying respiratory monitors such as thoracic/abdominal effort sensors, electrocardiogram, electromyogram, and other custom placements for EEG electrodes.
Ability to differentiate, with supervision, artifacts from cerebral waveforms, troubleshoots and corrects technically-related problems.
Ability to recognize, with appropriate training, critical events related to sleep pathology and seizure disorders, as well as medical emergencies that arise during the study.
Qualifications
Associate’s degree, preferably in a science related field.
Current CPR certification. Must pass R. EEG T. exam within three years of hire.
A minimum of six months of direct patient care experience or equivalent.
