Last.fm is a music discovery service used by over 20m people. Our mission is to help people discover music they will love.
You’ll be joining 10 talented developers on the Last.fm software engineering team, which is responsible for building and maintaining the Last.fm website.
Over the last 19 years we have built a loyal fan base and a reputation for good music recommendations.
Your role will directly shape the way that users interact with music and data on Last.fm, both through their listening history and by introducing new music to them.
What will you be doing?
Using HTML, CSS, JavaScript / Vue and Python / Django, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the website features on Last.fm to global standards, using CI/CD and Agile methods.
You will work closely with other developers, engineers, designers and product managers in fortnightly sprints and be encouraged to influence the development of the product by providing input at all stages of the design and development process.
You will contribute to the team’s development and planning processes, always keeping the end users in mind.
Upcoming Key Projects:
Developing features to help users engage with our powerful music discovery options ( https://www.last.fm/music ).
Developing intuitive solutions to enable users to delve into their listening history ( https://www.last.fm/user/LAST.HQ/library ).
Using real-time data and live listening stats to bring our vast knowledge of music, artists and songs to life.
Rolling out new data insights and visualisations for personalised listening reports ( https://www.last.fm/user/last.hq/listening-report/year/2019 ).
Re-engineering and modernising our front-end to enable offline-first and better app integration.
We are based in London but work mostly as a remote team, collaborating together through tools like Slack and Jira.

What are we looking for?
Web development is an area with many complementary skills, and we will help you to pick up new skills.
Required skills and experience:
2+ years building functional, dynamic websites.
Proven experience of semantic, accessible HTML5 and CSS
A good understanding of web technologies, including best practices.
Familiarity with modern frontend JavaScript frameworks such as Vue or React (we use Vue)
Familiarity with server-side MVC frameworks such as Python / Django or PHP / Symfony (We use Python / Django)
Some familiarity with Object Oriented programming and testing
The desire to learn new technologies and work together on projects as a team
Optional skills and experience:
(Familiarity with these is a bonus, and not required to be hired)
Git, Bash, Docker, Linux, LESS or SASS
CI/CD and JavaScript build pipelines
Full web delivery stack including caches (e.g. Varnish) and CDNs (e.g. Fastly)
UX, User Testing, A/B testing or graphic design
Progressive Enhancement techniques or Accessibility
Experience with test driven development or unit tests
