ESG and Net Zero carbon are key deliverables to demonstrate our businesses leadership in the low carbon energy industry.The Head of Sustainability will drive best practice across all aspects of sustainability and ESG; engagement, implementation and communicating are key delivery themes. Practically this will require the Head of Sustainability to work closely with a broad range of stakeholders to lead SMS’s Sustainability Strategy and champion the integration and continuous improvement of ESG.Work Conditions – This is a 1 year Fixed Term role.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESLead the development and delivery of ESG and Sustainability Strategy, in line with company vision and values.Foster collaborative integration of ESG at all levels across the business, Chairing the ESG Working Group, representing ESG Ratings and Environmental elements within the Board Health Safety and Sustainability Committee and working with key contributors.Fulfilling external engagement opportunities identified within the ESG strategy such as Investor communications & events, SMS Reports, voluntary disclosures, rating agency engagement and other company communication channels.Improving and evolving existing ESG policies, data collection, reporting processes and frameworks.Integrating Sustainability and ESG into new and existing business projects, developments and processes, such as Grid Battery sites and Procurement processes, acting as Subject Matter Expert.Define, agree and deliver Net Zero strategy aligned with Climate related risks and opportunities, supported by appropriate Scope, 1, 2, 3 and 4 data aggregation and reporting.Maintain appropriate internal stakeholder communications on environmental sustainability including Board Reports, internal comms and training materials.Ensure business sustainability is fully and accurately communicated in Tenders and Client presentations through support of the Sales & Business Development teams.Legal and voluntary compliance; Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR), ISO50001 and support of ISO14001.Define resource requirements, agree resource budgets and manage the activity of personnel as necessary to execute ESG and net-zero delivery responsibilities.EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/MEMBERSHIPS –Degree (or equivalent) in sustainability or environmental consultancyEnergy or Environmental Management Systems auditor qualificationChartered Environmentalist (or equivalent) professional accreditationSKILLS AND KNOWLEDGERelevant experience within environmental management/consultancy and/or sustainabilityIdentification of material ESG, Sustainability and Climate change risks and opportunities relevant to business needs to inform strategy developmentEngaging a broad range of stakeholder to develop ESG metrics, targets and updates to in line with global reporting standardsCarbon accounting and climate related risk frameworksCompletion of submissions to the Carbon Disclosure Project, UN Global Compact, Science Based Targets or other similar third-party frameworks.Environmental impact assessments and/or life cycle assessments.Management, oversight or involvement in energy or environmental management systems.Management of compliance with environmental legislation.Independently managing projects and ensuring work is delivered as expected to a high standard within allocated timeframe and budget.Leading a team.Facilitating and holding workshops with different levels of stakeholders.Presentation at conferences and/or writing award nominations and articles for industry publications.PERSONAL ATTRIBUTESManages own workload effectively.The ability to manage multiple teams across sites showing excellent communication skills.The ability to build and maintain customer relationships to ensure customers delighted and future growth opportunities.Demonstrable approach to self-development.Curious about new ideas and able to translate them into viable plans.Resilient and responsive to change.Strong situational judgement and risk management skills.Shows pride through maintenance of tools and vehicle appearance.Contributes to team development through sharing expertise.Equipped to hit the ground running and deliver results at pace, while maintaining poise.Positively influence a wide range of stakeholders under a variety of budgetary and regulatory pressures.In ReturnWe support Mental, Physical and Financial wellbeing, and we’re proud of our benefits package to reward great talent which includes:25 personal holiday days per year with additional allocation of 8 public holidays (includes options to buy and sell)After 5 years’ service, you will be rewarded with an additional 5 days annual leave increasing your total to 30 personal days and 8 public holidays.Smart HealthKeeping our employees mentally and physically healthy is one of the things that matters most to us.Employee Assistance Programme (free access to counselling & support) with easy access via My Healthy Advantage app.Access to SmartHealth app – includes a free 24/7 online GP and a range of wellbeing services.Cycle Scheme – lower your carbon footprint whilst staying healthy.Medicash Employee health plan – Medicash offer health plans that look after you and your family by providing a range of positive healthcare benefits.
