Description : The role
The appointee will be expected to deliver outstanding teaching and to undertake internationally leading research. There are opportunities for successful candidates to play a significant role in shaping and leading Bristol’s activities in Digital Health including in our EPSRC-funded Centre for Doctoral Training in Digital Health and Care and our HDR-UK funded Digital Health MSc. With the successful CDT, MSc and a large portfolio of Digital Health research (e.g. the £16M SPHERE programme), we believe that Bristol offers a unique environment for someone with the vision and ambition to lead the development and application of new digital technologies for health.
The post is being offered on a part-time (60% FTE), on an open ended contract funded for two years contract.
What will you be doing?
The main purpose of the job is to carry out excellent and innovative Research and Teaching in the area of Digital Health.
Research: You will be expected to carry out excellent research complementing that currently being pursued in the School, and to publish high quality publications in top venues for Digital Health research. You will also be expected to attract funding from government and/or industrial sources.
Teaching: You will be expected to take an active role in providing high quality and innovative teaching with a particular focus on Digital Health; this will include lectures, personal tutoring, seminars, as well as supervising group and individual projects, at postgraduate level. We also envisage in the future the delivery of face-to-face or remote teaching to groups that include professionals in industry and the NHS.
Administration: You will be expected to contribute to the general running of the School by undertaking academic administrative responsibilities. This includes, but is not limited to, roles relating to running academic programmes (such as the Digital Health MSc and CDT); postgraduate admissions (including developing and helping to deliver marketing initiatives for new programmes such as the Digital Health MSc); interaction with industry, the NHS and other external partners; examinations and project assessment; outreach activities.

We are seeking applicants with strong publication track records and an interest in building their own research activity within the discipline. Candidates with research interests across the discipline are encouraged, with the ability to teach and supervise our multidisciplinary postgraduate students. Relevant interests include (but are not limited to) digital techniques for behaviour change; self-management of long-term health conditions; the analysis of health-related data; the use of smartphones and wearables; the development of wearables and implantables; responsible innovation; evaluation methodologies; health data security & ethics.
We are also looking for someone with a track record of working with health professionals and with patients. Candidates would likely be able to demonstrate a commitment to co-production in research and to have active interests in – or at least strong awareness of – responsible innovation, medical device and app regulation, clinical evaluation methodologies, qualitative methodologies, data security & research ethics.
