Description : Job Purpose
As a member of the School Professional Services Leadership Team, working in partnership with senior colleagues across the School, College and University, hold responsibility for delivery of an efficient and effective suite of operational services and contribute to the development of service excellence within the School’s professional services team.
Lead and contribute on behalf of the School to the University-wide change programme, embedding a culture of continuous improvement to effectively support the core business of the School.
The role reports directly to the Head of Professional Services within the School.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Strategic leadership and development of a revisioned service design model across a range of service operations within the School in the delivery of an efficient, effective, adaptable, and enhanced staff experience.
2. Develop a service excellence metrics framework to assess service performance, using analytical insight to identify and implement key opportunities for improvement.
3. Support the Senior Leadership Team in the implementation of an effective governance structure within the School, ensuring it is aligned with both the University’s governance and compliance framework and relevant local, national, and professional bodies within the education sector.
4. Lead and develop a high performing team to provide an enhanced support service experience for staff across core areas including executive and general administrative support, governance and compliance and communications and engagement.
5. Work in partnership with the College Head of Operations to ensure effective prioritisation and delivery of estates and facilities management services on behalf of the School.
6. Lead the development and implementation of business continuity and risk management plans for the School, liaising directly across the College and University Services to manage and mitigate the associated operational risk.
7. Work in partnership with the College Head of Operations ensuring School compliance with University Health & Safety policies and procedures, proactively addressing areas of risk and non-compliance across health, safety and environment, space allocation, data protection, freedom of information, and Equality and Diversity.
8. Effectively lead the School’s accreditation processes, working in partnership with colleagues and external bodies to ensure process compliance and co-ordination, supporting high quality submissions.
9. Key lead in the development and implementation of a continuous improvement framework, embedding operational service excellence and developing organisational capability to enable effective delivery across the School.
10. Proactively network and develop strong collaborative relationships across the University to share best practice and remove potential barriers to the delivery of enhanced performance
11. Senior professional services lead in the School in contributing to the University’s World Changing Transformation programme and College initiatives to enhance capacity and capability in delivery of strategic objectives.
12. Deputise for the Head of Professional Services for the School as appropriate.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
Essential
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s). OR Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and management skills in a similar or number of different roles.
A2 Substantial knowledge of governance and business processes within a large complex organisation.
A3 Knowledge and understanding of the HE sector and potential challenges.
A4 Substantial knowledge of Lean/Process Improvement and Change Management.
A5 Broad knowledge of financial management of budgets and the use of insightful analytics to inform high quality decision-making.

E1 Proven track record of providing a high-quality professional service across a multi-disciplinary range in a complex organisation.
E2 Sustained proven track record using Lean/other methodology in the delivery of significant benefits to the business through process improvement/change management programmes.
E3 Extensive experience in a business partnering role, working with senior staff to formulate, develop and successfully deliver key strategic objectives.
E4 Proven track record of successfully leading high performing teams.
E5 Significant experience of providing high quality management information to inform decision-making.
Standard Terms and Conditions
Salary will be on the Management, Professional and Administrative Grade, level 8, £44,706 – £51,799 per annum.
This post is full time (35 hours per week) and is offered on an open ended basis.
New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months.
The successful applicant will be eligible to join the University Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits.
