The UCPath Center is the University of California’s shared services center in Riverside, CA. The UCPath Center manages the payroll, benefits, and other human resources transactions for more than 200,000 UC employees working across ten UC campuses, five medical centers, three national labs and more. POSITION SUMMARY
The University of California Office of the President (UCOP) has created the UCPath Initiative. UCPath is facilitating the development and implementation of a replacement system from the current Payroll Personnel System (PPS) to a new systemwide combined Human Resource Information System (HRIS) and payroll system. One outcome of the UCPath Initiative will be the creation of a systemwide Shared Service Center, called the UCPath Center. The UCPath Center will process selected payroll, benefits, academic personnel, leave management and workforce administration transactions for UC’s ten campuses and five medical centers. This implementation is planned to occur over a three-year time frame, in multiple phases. Upon its completion, the UCPath Center will provide services to over 190,000 UC employees and operate with a staff of approximately 500 UC employees.
The Payroll Assistant will work within the UCPath Center, reporting directly to the Production Supervisor, Payroll. Initially, the Payroll Assistant is responsible for supporting the implementation of the UCPath Center. Key activities may include supporting the development of training materials, documentation of processes and procedures, systems testing, and others. The Payroll Assistant will be responsible for providing assistance with respect to escalated payroll inquiries and issues.
This position learns to use professional payroll concepts, and applies systemwide policies and procedures to resolve routine issues and customer inquiries. The Payroll Assistant works on problems of limited scope, and applies systemwide practices and procedures to analyze situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. This position receives predetermined work assignments that are subject to a moderate level of control and review.

Payroll Administration Performs a variety of accounting duties including the preparation, processing, and maintenance of payroll, salary, and benefit calculations. Collects, analyzes, updates and reconciles payroll data on a regular basis. Reviews timesheets and then calculates and records salary adjustments as necessary. Researches, calculates and prepares payments for various vendors Reviews, analyzes and updates salary spend projections for accuracy. Performs other routine payroll transactions as required.

Maintains accurate records and monitors salary and benefit related data of the employee population. Monitors record keeping procedures for data accuracy. Maintains mandated documents as required by federal and state legislation including salary schedules. Other duties as assigned.

Client Support Provides data for auditors, and local, state, or federal agencies. Responds to salary verification requests. Researches payroll and benefit record keeping issues like sick leave and vacation balances; performs appropriate action as needed.
Required Qualifications
A minimum of two (2) years of relevant payroll administration or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Basic knowledge of payroll processes, procedures, rules and regulations. Has knowledge, skills and abilities needed to analyze and determine how the payroll plans are developed and administered in the most efficient manner. Has knowledge of systems and technology that support payroll plans. Ability to understand how changes to these will affect outcomes, operations, and fiscal objectives. Ability to provide high quality work utilizing highly developed and effective communication (written and verbal), time management, and collaboration skills. Strong organizational, and project management skills. Excellent people skills, with ability to effectively interact, collaborate in a team environment, and influence across all levels of an organization. Ability to handle ambiguity in a fast-paced environment with multiple concurrent tasks and changing priorities. Ability to maintain flexibility and quickly address changing priorities. Ability to accomplish assigned projects without compromising the integrity of the UCPath Center and/or University of California policies and procedures. Ability to appropriately handle confidential matters and material. Ability to provide excellent service with integrity. Self-motivated and directed. Ability to identify complex problems and related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Strong computer skills, with intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and experience working with databases.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or related field. Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC). Experience with shared service center practices technologies. Experience and proficiency in the PeopleSoft Payroll module. Knowledge of UC payroll policies and procedures.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary: The recommended salary range is $24.61 – $30.22. Commensurate with experience.
