Description : The Research Computing Service (RCS) at the University of Cambridge has an exciting opportunity for an excellent candidate to join the Research Computing User Services team as a Research Computing Specialist.
RCS provides one of the largest High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters in the UK, Large scale HPC storage, NAS and long term tape storage, OpenStack cloud infrastructure and other services for researchers from within Cambridge and other UK Universities and industry.
The successful applicant will join a growing team responsible for supporting, developing and maintaining these UK-leading services to facilitate research across a wide range of disciplines. As a member of RCS you will have the opportunity to actively contribute to the design and delivery of new services and other cutting edge projects.
Essential skills include:
Practical and proven knowledge of Linux system administration, shell scripting and practical knowledge of high level programming or scripting languages such as Python or Bash.
Configuration management and automation methods using technologies such as Ansible and Terraform.
Experience with storage platforms, parallel file systems and cloud-computing platforms such as OpenStack would be advantageous.
Proactive, creative and comfortable resolving complex problems.
