As a member of the Hosting team, your day to day responsibilities will span several areas which are key to the continued success of The New York Times’ Information Security program, including:
Support of AWS and other related infrastructure for marketing and brand websites, media kits, and new use cases as they arise across the organization.
Maintenance of log management and SEIM tools for forensic investigations.
Implementation of new tools to aid our Intelligence, Education and Operations functions.
Care and feeding of existing tools used for network monitoring, asset tracking and much more.
In this role you will be a part of the Security Architecture group, which builds platforms that ensure The New York Times’ systems operate in a secure, reliable and efficient manner. You’ll have the opportunity to cross-train into these areas and gain experience working on security tools used at scale across the company. This position reports to the Engineering Manager in the Information Security organization.

Information Security helps prevent The Times from becoming news.
Our team works to protect the news makers, their support staff and the platforms which they rely on every day, as well as all of The Times products and services, and our readers who consume them.
Responsibilities
Partner closely with customer teams to understand projects and deliver platforms that support their requirements.
Build secure environments with infrastructure as code principles.
Maintain clear documentation of all assigned work, including status, next steps and potential blockers.
Be part of a cross organizational team responsible for designing and promoting secure architectures and development practices.
Serve in the on-call rotation for security infrastructure such as Vault, Consul and Twistlock.
Required Experience
4+ years experience in development operations
High comfort with AWS, and knowledge of best practices for architecting security and guardrails into the platform
Familiarity with log management and SEIM tools (Sumo Logic, Splunk)
Hands-on experience with Linux and Apache
Solid understanding of modern software development practices such as CI/CD and shifting security left
Proven track record of providing high levels of customer service to a variety of stakeholders
Nice to Have
A desire for career growth in the security space
Programming in Go/python on a production application
Experience with Terraform and Packer
Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery techniques and tooling
Interest in the management track is a plus

This role will require limited on – call hours. An on – call schedule will be determined when you join, taking into account team size and other variables.
