UX Engineer (IT App Development – Journey)

We’re looking for an innovative and detail-oriented User Experience (UX) Engineer to work on our UX Team. The UX Team supports one of the most popular Washington State Government websites, dol.wa.gov. Our customers vary in literacy, English proficiency, technical skills, physical, motor, and cognitive function. This position is instrumental in making our digital services as usable and accessible as possible for all residents of Washington.
In this role, you’ll:
Be the technical expert in accessibility, user interface design, and testing.
Champion the agency’s design system and support the external and internal websites.
Support our mission-critical websites (internal and external), public chatbot, and online services.
Work with webmasters, UX specialists, information technology specialists, and product owners on websites and digital services.

Required Qualifications:
We may refer applicants with the following qualifications to the hiring manager:
3 or more years’ experience integrating HTML with server-side coding environments such as ASP.NET, PHP, JSP or ColdFusion (ASP.NET preferred) or experience in web application development or server-side scripting. Ability to program from wireframes or mock-ups using a style guide.
3 or more years’ experience architecting and configuring advanced websites in Drupal, WordPress, or similar content management system.
3 or more years’ experience debugging HTML, CSS, and JavaScript errors.
3 or more years’ experience researching and reporting recommendations on current technology trends and how you can use them to improve customers experience and benefit the organization.
Expert in writing cross-browser, standards compliant HTML, Saas/CSS, and JavaScript. Must have web coding and design experience. Experience with PHP development and Twig templating.
Experience in Quality assurance (QA), Accessibility, and Usability testing. Understanding of, and experience with, website usability concepts, testing, and reporting. Understanding of accessibility principles and methods. Understanding and use of QA testing and techniques.
Accessibility Experience with WCAG 2.0/2.1, A/AA, and ADA Sections 504 and 508.
Experience gathering and evaluating information on product accessibility, such as VPAT or similar accessibility documentation.
Experience writing and assessing Accessibility Evaluation Reports, VPATs, and Equally Effective Alternative Access Plans.
Preferred Qualifications and Competencies:

Certification, Associates degree, or Bachelor’s degree in Web development, web design or related field.
Database experience and/or knowledge of SQL.
Knowledge of responsive mobile design, Ajax or related technology, the Document Object Model (DOM), XML, XSLT, and related technologies.
