about the role
We are looking for a visualization scientist to join Mastercard’s Economics Institute. An individual who will be focused on creating custom, interactive and actionable materials for all of our stakeholders. This individual will report to the team lead for quantitative economics and have the following responsibilities:
play a pivotal role in shaping the visual and branding philosophy for the institute including all of the internal and external reports, blogs, collateral;
design, develop & refine rich, interactive visualizations using latest design principles and economic, financial market, payment data sets for all our: global and local, internal and external collateral formats;
explore large economic data sets to find stories that are brought to life in compelling, intuitive visualizations of insights
collaborate with economists, coders, developers & data scientists in creating the visualizations to answer very specific client and business needs and push the boundaries in creating impactful, memorable, intuitive visualizations
create multi-purpose visualizations to work within 2D & 3D environments and to create visualizations that are adaptable to both digital and non-digital media with efficiency.
with their artistic mind encompass all stages of the value chain – conceptualize, design, develop reusable graphic/data visualizations widgets/infrastructure.
with their solid software development skills participate in every stage of an engagement – even for stages they are not directly responsible for – from briefing to ideation, to content development to draft/prototyping, testing, feedback collection and finalization.

Passionate and creative about design, data, coding/programming, technology and its applications
Ability to communicate ideas in a non-technical manner engaging manner
Advanced abilities in d3, javascript, plotly.js, highcharts.js, html, css
Experience in video game design/development, rich graphics/animation, movie making is a plus
Visualization experience, ideally in a video gaming/app/tech/healthcare/financial fields
Proficiency in visualizing geo-spatial data
Strong collaborator and independent thinker
Excellent at managing multiple projects and tight timelines
Excellent visual story teller
Proven record of creativity/innovation/unorthodox thinking in design, data science/coding/a related field
Comfortable working in a fast paced and fluid environment, staying calm under pressure
Excellent design skills with an entrepreneurial mindset, that loves to experiment
Ability to translate user/business needs in to action and adopt feedback to make the product better
COVID-19 Considerations
