To learn more about Understood and our programs, please visit: www.understood.orgAbout the positionUnderstood is looking for an associate director to lead the engagement within its new community app, Wunder. This role will lead in-app engagement while nurturing and cultivating the nascent in-app community groups. This person is a member of the product marketing team, reporting to the head of product marketing, and will be the main point of contact for the cross-functional executional team.The individual will ensure that the communities grow organically, evolve to meet the needs of select audiences, and ensure the voices of the community members are heard. There is a tight connection with the organic social community team and product team to ensure new features are efficiently and effectively rolled out across the app community.The ideal candidate has exceptional oral and written communication skills and is able to develop data-backed, human-insight driven recommendations. A fluent understanding of digital product ecosystems, social media, and online community building is a must. Experience with communities centered around parents and caregivers, and awareness of learning and thinking differences are huge pluses.Key responsibilitiesOwn the building, cultivation, engagement, and retention within the Wunder community AppDrive ongoing strategy, program development, and working cross-functionally to executePartner with organic social, editorial, growth marketing, and communications team to grow usersWork with user research and product teams to cultivate a shared understanding of community user needsIdentify growth opportunities for the online communityCraft engagement strategies to increase user activity on a daily, weekly and monthly basisLead the community engagement teamRespond to comments and customer queries in a timely mannerMonitor and report on feedback, reviews, and general sentimentProvide actionable recommendations to brand based on community feedbackAdvocate on behalf of the Wunder Community within the organizationStay up to date with social, technology and community trendsDevelop key objectives and KPIs, and provide active project management and ongoing monitoring to ensure the delivery on Understood’s strategic objectives and KPIsRecommend systems that improve the overall operations of the teamPreferred experienceYou are passionate about people, our mission, and have a strong commitment to Understood’s values and communities.Proven track record in cultivating and growing communities from the startKnowledge of or experience in learning disabilities/special education a preferred plusRelevant experience in the areas of marketing, product management, and/or community building is highly desirable.Technical knowledge and expertise in building effective engagement strategiesSuperb understanding of the role community plays within a larger brand ecosystemStrong experience in developing robust, creative, innovative and sharp strategiesKnowledge of content models and intelligence tools (e.g. social listening, audience profiling)Ability to clearly and concisely communicate ideas, concepts, and proposals to engage and excite team members and senior leaders.Demonstrated track record of leading and navigate cross-functional teamsFlexible style to influence and build relationshipsCurious and have a knack for simplifying complex subject matterStrong analytical and data skills; ability to interpret ongoing research data and media reports to guide, influence, and expertly inform communication recommendationsCommitment to Diversity, Equity, and InclusionUnderstood encourages individuals of all learning styles, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds, including those whose life experiences may include the challenge of access due to a disability, to apply for this position.
