Description : About IIHS Campus Development
The proposed IIHS IOE main campus is located on a 54-acre freehold site at Kengeri, Bengaluru. The digitally-augmented buildings and facilities slated to be built over three phases, are expected to enable interdisciplinary teaching-learning, research and practice, and demonstrate the best examples of Indian design and traditional crafts.
The campus of the proposed IIHS IOE will aim to provide students and researchers the opportunity to immerse themselves and innovate around India’s core urban challenges.
IIHS Campus Development focuses on design, procurement and execution of the Campus at Kengeri. The work includes contract administration, design coordination, project management and handover of facilities to the Facilities Management team.
Job Description
IIHS Campus Development is looking to hire a Lab Technician (Civil) with around 2 to 5 years of work experience. This is a full-time position in the Campus Development team at IIHS based out of Bengaluru.
Activities and Tasks
Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:
Operating standard construction material laboratory testing equipment;
Performing analysis or calculations to check accuracy of test data;
Accurately performing various construction material tests in accordance with applicable standards;
Cleaning, maintaining and calibrating equipment;
Preparing all QC Laboratory documents like work procedures, ITP, QAP, Checklist, formats required for carrying out project specific activities and testing as per project specifications and codes of practice;
Coordinating with contractors for the field-testing, pre and post concrete inspection and obtaining approval;
Collecting the soil samples of required type at specific points, getting them dried in the oven and sieved to get soil of required size.
Weighing fixed quantities of soil and setting up the apparatus to determine their physical and chemical properties;
Collecting water samples at specified points for physio chemical, Biological and Microbial analysis and recording observations in field data sheet;
Maintaining the lab record of reading and field observations, for calculating and reference purposes;
Preparing the standard chemicals and solutions required for field testing of samples and maintaining the laboratory clean and tidy;
Keeping an accurate record and electronic data base of all elements of the projects;
Making sure that all health, safety and legal requirements are met throughout the process;
Providing support to other IIHS activities including academics, research, training, practice, operations and others;
Participating in all activities of Institution-Building at IIHS; carrying out tasks as assigned by IIHS; and traveling on IIHS work within or outside the country as and when needed.
Structure and Reporting
The Lab Technician – Campus Development will report to the Chief – Campus Development or the Project Manager – Campus Development at IIHS and will be required to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of internal teams and external individuals/organisations, and students.
Person Specification
The applicant is required to possess at least a professional Diploma in Civil Engineering with 2-5 years of relevant experience. Prior experience in large scale building as a project engineer would be an added advantage.
He/she must demonstrate:
Knowledge of civil/soil/water engineering principles, practices and methods, environmental regulations, workplace safety and personnel management;
General understanding of Building Codes, Mechanical Codes, Electrical Codes and Plumbing Codes as they relate to construction projects;
Effective verbal and written communication skills;
Proficiency with personal computers and networking, specifically Microsoft Office and AutoCad;
Flexibility and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment;
Competence in handling simultaneously occurring tasks and smaller projects;
Excellent organisational skills and team working abilities.
