Description : Summary/ObjectiveThe Medical Assistant has 6+ months of Medical Assistant experience (or training) and may work in a Float position or as a member of a specific provider team.This team member assists providers with general dermatology, surgical, and cosmetic services as set forth in the Practice Protocols.Essential FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Regular and Reliable attendance is essential to this position.General DermatologyParticipates in training and demonstrates proficiency in acquired knowledge specific to Dermatology while engaging in every patient’s visit as appropriate.Assists with note-taking/scribes during a patient visit, using proper charting terminologyProper bandage/dressing applicationGenerates/sends prescriptions on the provider’s behalfPatient education, such as wound care instructions and prescription usageManagement of the biopsy/result log as assignedHandles specimens – properly following procedure to avoid unintended exposure; always following established safety practices.Acquires proper patient consent/sTakes location pictures of biopsy/surgical/cosmetic sites as appropriateCosmetic Services (Injectables, lasers)Acquires proper patient consentsMust have knowledge of cosmetic products and proceduresTakes photos pre and post-procedure or as appropriate for continuing care and Provider review.Responsible for patient prep for cosmetic servicesPrepares injectables and lasersAssists provider during cosmetic visit/procedurePost-op VisitsAcquires proper patient consentsHandles suture removal and bandage/dressing changesTakes photos pre and post-procedure or as appropriate for continuing care and Provider reviewPatient education on after-careCharting and assigning notes as appropriateScheduling and Desk WorkUses the practice’s Electronic Medical Record and Patient Management systems efficiently and accurately.Schedules surgery, treatments and follow-up appointmentsResponsible for completing surgical/treatment paperwork as assigned and appropriateDoes proper chart documentationPlaces prescription orders using Electronic Rx and/or patient’s preferred method as assigned and appropriateAnswers and expedites clinical calls; ensuring that all patient needs are met in an efficient and timely manner.OtherMaintains a positive attitude by caring and being supportive of patients, visitors, providers and co-workersParticipates in maintaining a smooth, punctual and efficient patient flowEnsures exam rooms are stocked, neat and ready for useResponsible for daily cleaning and packaging of instrumentsMaintains a safe working environment according to OSHA and Dept of Health guidelinesChecks and responds as appropriate – company email, EMR communications, and other incoming communication daily.Works closely with office management, following company policies and protocols, utilizing appropriate chain of command to resolve issues.CompetenciesCommunication Proficiency.Ethical Conduct.Excellent Customer Service FocusAverage to Above Average Computer SkillsSupervisory ResponsibilityThis position holds no formal supervisory authority.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a clinical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines As well as tools and equipment specific to the Medical Assistant Role.Physical DemandsThis role requires prolonged standing, walking, and assisting patients with standing, balance, and positioning for examination and procedures. . This would require the ability to lift, open cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full time position. Core Business Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; however, actual scheduled work hours may vary.
