HMIS is soliciting for specialized skills for a Forecaster to support the Meteorological and Climatological Program of Hanford Mission Integration Solutions, LLC (HMIS), a prime contractor to the Department of Energy (DOE).
The Forecaster will participate in Meteorological & Climatological Data and Data reporting for the Meteorological & Climatological Program. Activities may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Coordinate/communicate with other Hanford Site Contractors & Customers to ensure accurate and timely information.
Assist in the development of quality assurance and control checks of incoming and outgoing data.
Collaborate with other entities on reconfiguring how data is stored, archived, and disseminated via the Hanford Meteorological Station webpage and mobile app.
Provide and upkeep direct links to meteorological data for site contractors and DOE.
Operate, maintain, and aid in the upgrading of the Meteorological and Climatological Services computer and data network.
Provide input into the implementation of a user customizable semi-automated alert system.
Ensure that the comprehensive Climatological data records are maintained for applications, such as post-accident analysis, dose reconstruction, building design, and environmental impact Assessment.
Support digitization and importing of archived paper and digital records into custom SQL database and other means of electronic data archives. Work in partnership to allow site contractors to review archived data.
Support emergency response activities with up-to-date meteorological data and forecasts in the event of fires, radiological release, or chemical release.
Provide heat stress (WBGT) information to requesting Hanford Site contractors.Distribute meteorological information to site contractors in support of cleanup and operations (e.g., building demolition, reactor compartment transport, special construction projects, and tank vapor studies).
Maintain historical Climatological database to respond to special requests in support of site activities, such as: Dose Reconstruction Projects; Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Assessments; Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB) composite analysis; CERCLA human health and ecological risk assessments; system assessment capability assessments; waste site cleanup air monitoring network design; and litigation.
Help maintain forecast distribution lists and consult on new ways to create and deliver forecasts to site contractors and DOE.
Operate the Met Viewer data display system and Air Pollutant Graphical Environmental Modeling System (APGEMS) interactive transport and diffusion computer model.Analyze and interpret data from surface meteorological monitoring stations, satellites, radar, lidar, maps, and photographs to interpret atmospheric phenomena and predict long- and short-range weather conditions, using computer models and knowledge of climate theory, physics, and mathematics.
Prepare and update daily forecasts, briefings, recorded messages, and reports to meet the needs of Hanford Site managers, contractors, the public and other users.
Operate computer graphic equipment to produce weather reports and maps for analysis, and distribution to users.
Issue weather advisories and storm or other severe weather warnings in text and verbal formats.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in science, environmental, atmospheric science, meteorology, or related field plus 0-5 years of experience.
Ability to analyze and communicate technical information.
Skilled in the collection and analysis of meteorological and/or climatological data and preparation of short- and long-term weather forecasts.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; expertise in the use of computer data management tools.

Desired Qualifications
* Master’s degree in science, environmental, atmospheric science, meteorology, or related field.
Familiarity with the Hanford meteorological monitoring network, or forecasting in similar meteorological environment preferred.
