The Software Engineering role is a specialist role that requires the individual to be experienced in coding techniques and software languages, that will help to build and support our new strategic tech stack.
This role is new to the Body Shop and is considered a global role as the applications that they will develop will be used by customers and colleagues across the world. The role will require the individual to work with senior stakeholders across teams, divisions, and countries and they will be responsible for building code that will help drive sales and profit for the business.
As a Software Engineer, you will be actively encouraged to contribute to all aspects of software delivery, evaluating feasibility, exploring requirements, and solution development. As our business diversifies, you will be expected to learn and work on technologies and functionality as it’s developed.
Whilst providing quality software solutions for our business and evaluating requirements, proposing and developing solutions, as part of an agile delivery squad, you will also take responsibility for estimating, planning, and managing your own tasks and reporting on progress.
This is a wide-ranging role where the software engineer will come into a focused delivery squad exploring & developing microservices & cloud implementations.
Relationship Management will play an important part as you’ll be collaborating closely with other members of the squad and working alongside Product Owners, Business Analysts, Test Engineers, and Business Stakeholders.Accountable for developing end to end solutions using best practice engineering methodology while adhering to the relevant Admiral IT Architecture and CISO controls and standardsAccountable for supporting end product/ solution operational acceptance by enabling and maintaining agreed functional performance as and where requiredAccountable for identifying and implementing suitable detailed development activities for each sprint set of epics/ stories in accordance with best-practice standards and processes as advisedAccountable for providing appropriate planning and estimation of development tasks to support both sprint planning and enable continuous improvement activityAccountable for ensuring end to end solution functional integrity at all times including meeting strict regulatory and data compliance requirements where identified
What we look for
Strong teamwork skills, working with squad to resolve issues efficientlyExtensive knowledge and experience in development practices including BDD/TDD, using associated tools for testing and continuous integration & deploymentStrong understanding of Agile principles and how they apply to the software development lifecycleExperience with development of micro services in a cloud environmentExperience operating within heavily regulated environments including external regulated consumer products and service offeringsProficiency in creating self-contained, reusable, and testable modules and componentsExperience of communicating with a wide and varied audience at various seniority gradesProficient understanding of code version control tools, such as GitShould have working experience on Cloud and its services (Azure, AWS or GCP)Understanding and implementation of containerisation for service deploymentJavaScript experience working with modern web frameworks such as React and Angular using ES6 featuresExtensive knowledge of CSS and JS methods for providing performant visual effectsExperience with developing complete responsive user interface in the form of a mobile and desktop web app, with a focus on performance
