Description : We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified graduate to fill an important role teaching German throughout the School in our large and thriving Languages Faculty. Kindness, creativity and academic challenge are key to our approach and we are looking for someone who shares that ethos. An enthusiasm for organising exchanges and trips is a must, and the ability to teach Linguistics or another language would be an advantage (even if the language is not currently one of our curricular languages). We are a diverse and dynamic Faculty of over thirty staff (including eight native-speaker assistants), supported in our daily work by a Faculty Administrator. The Faculty has an overall Head of Languages as well as Heads of each individual Department (Mandarin, Japanese, German, French and Spanish). Eight teachers within the Faculty currently teach German. There is a strong culture of celebrating languages (including those spoken at home) and of colleagues learning from one another. Pupils learn three languages in Year 7 – either French or Spanish plus either Japanese or Chinese plus either German or Latin, taking two forward into Year 8 and beyond. The number of periods allocated to languages at all levels on our timetable is generous. Text-book usage is minimal and we place an emphasis on personal responsibility, creativity and academic rigour. Uptake is excellent with almost half of pupils taking a language in our Sixth Form and we regularly send large numbers to read Languages at university (including 7 to Oxbridge in the last two years – two of whom were Germanists). We are experienced in supporting new teachers through the Schools Direct programme and are therefore happy to consider applications from those seeking to join the profession as well as from more experienced colleagues.Staff will be encouraged to contribute fully to the co-curricular life of the School and this is reflected in the salary offered. A strong commitment to the pastoral and house system is also anticipated. Accommodation may be available. Assistance is offered towards removal expenses. We welcome applications from all parts of our community as we aspire to attract staff that matches the social and cultural diversity of our student intake. For any queries, please telephone the Human Resources Department on 020 8688 9222 or email .Closing date: Midnight on Sunday 20 February 2022Applications will be reviewed on a daily basis and interviews may occur at any stage after applications are received so we invite interested candidates to apply as soon as possible.Job Type: Full-time
