Description : We are looking for a bright, talented and commercially astute Laser Development Engineer (or Physicist) to join one of the UK`s most exciting optical technology companies, based in Oxfordshire. The Development Engineer will primarily be involved in the R&D design of this state-of-the-art laser machinery and instrumentation but will also be assisting the marketing team preparing market plans and strategies including investigating new markets and applications for the company’s highly advanced technologies.
Responsibilities:
• Developing Laser process techniques and /or related hardware for specific applications and customer requirements.
• Working closely with colleagues to ensure that designs are fit for purpose and to maximize the efficiency of design costs, contributing to R&D projects targeted at commercially valuable applications.
• Estimate timescales and identify critical points for input to project plans, establish and maintain a technical database with detailed process information.
• Assisting the Marketing Team in preparing strategies, contributing to market evaluations and analysis, presenting projects to a wider audience, and promoting the company to potential customers, international conferences and exhibitions.
Requirements:
• Good BSc, BEng or MPhys degree in Physics, Laser/Optical Engineering or other relevant Science/Engineering subject.
• A few years of industrial experience with laser applications and development in a high-tech company.
• Knowledge and experience in some of the following: Laser micro-machining, high speed laser processing, motion control hardware integration (CNC tables, controllers, motors, galvanometer etc.), high average power ultrafast laser systems, materials science, Optical system design, machine vision for OEM integration.
• Ideally proficient with MATLAB, Python, machine control software programming e.g. G-code, CADCAM, metrology, optical microscopes.
• Excellent communication, technical writing and presentation skills.
