Job Description
The Sr. Application Monitoring Engineer will leverage Application Performance Monitoring tools, processes and standards for monitoring the performance of sophisticated distributed applications in cloud and on-premises. You will also work closely work with DevOps, Product development and CloudOps Operations teams to drive the end-to-end performance monitoring and transparency across all technology components. You will be also part of 24×7 Production monitoring support team, weekly operations reviews, continuous monitoring and alert analysis, SLO tracking’s.
Essential duties/responsibilities
What You’ll Do
As part of the Observability Team, the Application Performance Monitoring Engineer will focus on Application Performance Monitoring (APM), User Experience Monitoring (Synthetic & RUM), Infrastructure Monitoring & Log Analytics including Design, Solution, POC, profiling and tuning application compute and data nodes and resources. Some key duties of this role are:
Define Application Performance Monitoring (APM) tools and requirements for Non prod and production in partnership with Dev Engineering and IT Operations teams.
Providing health and performance reports, developing AIOps rules, creating alerts, creating custom dashboards, and maintaining associated CMDB’s and relevant metadata.
Effective and efficient operational support of all enterprise monitoring tools (AppDynamics, Elasticsearch, ThousandEyes, NagiosXI, Nagios Log Server) used to support the mission
Provide technical hands-on leadership in commercial and Open-source monitoring Tool Implementation
24×7 Production support responsibility based on on-call roaster for monitoring critical applications
Provide weekly monitoring and alert analysis and continuous improvement
Create a model of the run-time environment (discovery)
Profile the performance and behavior of user-defined transactions
Establish Performance metrics from each of the applications/systems technical components (Webserver, App server, Database, etc.)
Application performance management database
APM tool Administration and Support
Monitoring Tool design and implementation
APM Setup/Usage policies and guidelines
Capacity Planning and monitoring
Supervise application performance
Report vital statistics of application performance in production
Make recommendations for improvements to product development teams
Job requirements and qualifications
6+ years of overall information technology industry experience.
Proven knowledge and experience administering application, cloud infrastructure monitoring
Extensive experience working with development/DevOps teams, troubleshooting, and improving performance (application & database)
Scripting Language experience (Python preferred)
Strong understanding of web services and swagger is a plus
Experience with CI/CD pipelines
Attitude to thrive in a fun, fast-paced environment.
Ability to excel at problem solving, adapt easily to change, contribute while working as a team or individually.
Passion for DevOps, Application/API monitoring, automation, and reliability
Experience:
6+ years of experience with systems engineering
4+ years of experience in AppDynamics with installing agents, performance monitoring tool alerts, dashboards, and data trend analysis in a monitoring tool.
3+ years of experience in Monitoring Tools like NagiosXI, Nagios Log Server, ThousandEyes, Elastic Search, AWS CloudWatch, etc.
3+ years of experience with ServiceNow ITSM
