Description : The Mental Capacity Act is changing to include a new way of assessing someone’s capacity to consent and make best interest decision. Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) is the most seminal generational change to assuring effective human rights of consent to treatment and receiving care. NHS England and NHS Improvement is collaboratively leading that change at a local and regional level across the NHS and healthcare providers and we need 7 LPS Clinical Leads to support the system evolve.
The Regional LPS Clinical Lead will work within the Regional Chief Nurses team and with the Regional Safeguarding Lead and Regional NHS Continuing Health Care Lead. We are looking for adult and child safeguarding subject matter experts from across the system to apply.
The Regional LPS Clinical Leads will work as a matrix of subject matter experts across the NHS and independent health care provider with an NHS Contract. You will need to be brave enough to represent the voice of lived-experience; courageous enough to challenge the status quo in some part of system and bold enough to speak truth to power with regards to implementing a new LPS Code of Practice, the new LPS minimum data set and a whole assessment process.
These exceptional clinical leaders will come on secondment until March 2022, in the first instance. We are then expecting another 18 months funding for these 7 posts. These 8c posts will be managed as development posts for clinicians who feel they want to become senior safeguarding leads, Designated Professionals or system leaders in the future. The 7 LPS Clinical Lead will be offered places on the CNO Nurse Fellowship leadership programme.
